Albania is one of the poorest countries in Europe. It?s a country that inherited a litany of problems after 50 years of isolation y authoritarian rule under Enver Hoxha, who diead in  1985. After a difficult 15 year transition to democracy and an economic collapse in 1997, after which 25% of the population abandoned the country, Albania is still striving to overcome basic problems that handicap a country that aspires to one day join the European Union.  Daily electricity cuts of 8 to 20 hours, poor quality roads with few traffic signals and a lack of organized trash collection are just a few of the problems that Albanians face on a daily basis.  ***SPAIN OUT***
